How to unlock Challenge Mode
Complete a normal demo playthrough first. Finishing the demo unlocks Challenge Mode for a replay.
What changes?
The developer lists three main changes:
| Change | What it means for your run |
|---|---|
| All traps appear from the start | Respawning does not keep changing which traps are present. |
| Some random events use a seed | Those events become more predictable. This does not mean every event is identical in every run. |
| Extra traps and harder actions | Some parts require more precise execution. |
These rules make the mode more suitable for speedrunning. They do not supply a single optimal route.
Timer and death counter
The demo displays your time and deaths at the end of a run. You can also enable their HUD display in Settings.
The developer describes the timer as starting when you begin moving and stopping while the game is paused. A timer/settings fix was announced in June; that historical fix is not a guarantee of current timing accuracy for a competitive run.
Why normal runs can look different
In the normal demo, some traps are random and others appear after a number of deaths and respawns. A different trap sequence between two normal playthroughs is not automatically a bug. Challenge Mode uses the rules above instead.
For the default pause key, see controls and pause.
