Trees Hate You Demo: Download & Where to Play

Trees Hate You demo

The short answer

Play the free demo on Steam for Windows or Linux, or use the browser version on itch.io. The Steam demo is more up to date.

Download or play in your browser

Choose one of the developer’s two official demo channels:

Version Where to play Platforms
Steam demo Download free on Steam Windows; SteamOS + Linux
itch.io browser demo Open the browser game Runs in a web browser
itch.io download Get the Windows ZIP Windows

The developer describes the Steam demo as more up to date. Use Steam if you want the newer demo; the browser game is the quick option when you do not want to install it.

What is in the Steam demo?

The Steam listing includes the first act: two full levels and a short transition level. It also lists character customization, at least one hat, and Challenge Mode.

Windows minimum requirements include Windows 10 and 500 MB of storage. The itch.io Windows download is listed as Version 19; that number is not a Steam build number.

Mac, consoles and mobile

Windows and Linux are the confirmed platforms. Native Mac support, including Intel Mac compatibility, has not been confirmed. Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Android and iPhone versions have not been confirmed either.

The developer says the App Store and Play Store versions mentioned in the official FAQ were not authorized. Use the Steam or itch.io links above for the official demo. Opening a browser game on a device does not mean it has a native port.

Can I play co-op?

No. The developer’s published plan is single-player, with no multiplayer mode. There is no co-op setup to enable in the demo.

Once you are in, see the controls and pause guide or learn how to keep the Top Hat.
